The company builds AI voice and SMS agents that mortgage lenders deploy across contact centers, collections, and compliance operations, handling payment collection, escrow questions, new loan qualification, and delinquent-borrower engagement, work that historically required teams of humans working long hours. Every AI call is scored against the lender's own quality framework to guarantee regulatory compliance.

The company has processed a substantial volume of payments to date and generated meaningful revenue in its first full year, growing its team significantly over the same period. It's backed by a top-tier startup accelerator along with other institutional investors, and its early team includes executives from well-known fintech and technology companies.

About the Role

This is a founding engineer seat. The mandate is to architect and own the core systems that power the company's real-time AI voice and compliance workflows for top-10 US mortgage lenders. The right person has an opinion on how the product should actually be built, and starts rebuilding it.

What You'll Own

• Core systems that power real-time AI voice and compliance workflows
• Sub-700ms latency through event-driven architecture and parallel processing
• Deploying, operating, and scaling resilient systems using Kubernetes and distributed subsystems
• A self-improving AI system that gets better with every customer interaction and piece of human feedback
• Setting engineering culture and best practices: code reviews, documentation, architecture decisions

What We're Looking For

• 3 or more years of professional engineering experience, with strong Python fundamentals
• Real backend and infrastructure depth: you've personally architected production backends, not just shipped within someone else's existing stack
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, reliability, and fault tolerance
• Strong opinions on architecture, with a bias toward defensibly rebuilding what's wrong rather than working around it
• Fluent, daily use of AI coding tools
• A genuine interest in the mortgage or lending space
• Bonus: Kubernetes production experience, event-driven architecture, sub-second latency systems (voice AI, high-frequency trading, ad-serving, real-time recommendation), or prior work on compliance-heavy production systems

Logistics

San Francisco-based or willing to relocate immediately, five days a week in person. Compensation is $150K to $275K plus equity. Visa: H-1B transfers and TN status are workable; OPT status does not qualify, and O-1 status is acceptable.
