Forward Deployed Engineer (GovTech)
Gabriel Talent
About the Company
An early-stage, well-funded GovTech and AI company building a platform designed to understand and navigate complex laws, regulations, cases, and fiscal documents, paired with agentic coding tools. The company serves public-sector customers across a dozen states, along with private-sector clients in logistics and insurance, helping them navigate complex regulatory environments. Backed by a top startup accelerator, the company closed a standout seed round for its batch and is led by a small, high-agency team.
About the Role
The company's growth is currently constrained by headcount: there are more customer deployments and jurisdictions to cover than the current team can handle. This is a forward deployed engineer role responsible for deploying the platform into government agencies and enterprise clients. The core of the seat is the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders, often government officials, drive adoption, and ship valuable code in high-stakes, high-autonomy environments with heavy travel.
What You'll Own
- Deploying and integrating the platform at government agencies and enterprise clients across the US
- Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials and legal teams
- Actively shipping code to the core platform and responding directly to user feedback
- Driving user activation and revenue growth through direct customer engagement
- Owning your own travel, customer relationships, and deal strategy with high autonomy
What We're Looking For
- 2 to 4 years of experience
- Demonstrated software engineering ability; you must be able to ship code directly to the core platform, which the work trial will test
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS/Aurora) and SQL databases
- Charismatic and extroverted, able to build real relationships with government officials and enterprise clients
- Extreme work ethic, able to sustain a 996+ pace (roughly 9am-9pm, 6 or more days a week) for an extended period, including heavy travel (up to 5 days a week)
- High integrity, high IQ, and high agency, genuinely in the top percentile across all three
- US citizenship is required for this role (FedRAMP compliance); no visa sponsorship is available
- Willing and able to be based in person when not traveling (remote is only considered in exceptional cases, given the travel demands)
- Bonus: experience with AI/ML tooling or LLM-based systems; a founder-type background (former startup founder or a very early employee at a fast-growing startup) is strongly preferred; experience deploying AI/ML systems in government or highly regulated environments; prior experience at a leading AI lab or model provider is valued
Logistics
Austin, TX, in office when not traveling, with an intense pace (9-9-6). Compensation is $100K to $300K base plus 0.5% to 2% equity. No visa sponsorship is available; US citizenship is required.
