About the Role

A hands-on, individual-contributor Staff Backend Engineer who owns architecture and coding for the high-throughput systems behind email delivery, reporting, calendars, and customer data integrations, and who shapes the foundation for the company's AI capabilities. This is the most technical seat on the team, with no people management: you share your work and help teammates as needed. The role reports to a co-founder.

What You'll Own

• Scaling high-throughput systems for email delivery, reporting, calendars, and customer data integrations
• Modularizing backend services for resilience and independent scaling
• Optimizing PostgreSQL queries, API latency, and data-heavy operations
• Keeping customer data syncs with CRM, data warehouse, and email systems reliable as client volume grows
• The technical foundation for AI capabilities, including data pipelines
• Improving developer experience
  
  

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years building production backend systems
• Strong Java and Spring Boot experience, or a comparable backend framework
• Deep relational database experience, ideally PostgreSQL, including multi-tenant schema design and partitioning
• Production AWS experience
• A track record of independently owning complex backend projects end to end
• At least three separate, meaningful experiences with outsized ownership, and deep knowledge of everything on your resume. Multi-tenant B2B environments are ideal.
• Stability across roles, without a pattern of changing roles every 6 to 12 months
• A collaborative focus on the team's mission, with real curiosity about context

Logistics

New York City, in person. Candidates based in New York are strongly preferred, with some flexibility for exceptional candidates. Compensation is $250K to $300K plus equity. Visa sponsorship is generally not available, though it may be considered for the right fit.
