About the Company

An open-source company building a unified workspace that combines email, docs, tasks, and team collaboration into a single system, replacing the patchwork of tools many startups end up piecing together. The product serves two kinds of users: individuals looking for a sharper alternative to standalone tools, and early-stage startups using it as their company's core operating system. Founded a few years ago and backed by a well-known venture fund, the team is small, around 15 to 16 people, mostly engineers, based in New York City with a small presence in Toronto. The company runs its own operations entirely on its own product.

About the Role

This is a generalist role for smart, versatile engineers, no exact skill-set match required. The company is genuinely open to hiring engineers with very little professional experience, as long as the raw talent is obvious, alongside more senior engineers. No degree is required, you'll be evaluated through real conversation and an optional paid work trial, not a resume filter.

What You'll Own

• Building across a unified workspace product spanning email, docs, tasks, and collaboration
• Working in TypeScript and/or Rust, the specific language matters less than demonstrated engineering depth and care
• Close collaboration with a small, product-focused engineering team in the NYC office
• End-to-end feature ownership in a fast-moving, in-person startup environment

What We're Looking For

• Real, visible engineering strength: a genuine personal website, a GitHub with projects you actually care about, or writing that shows how you think. We'd rather see something simple and tasteful than an over-designed site full of flashy effects, and we'd rather see projects that came from real curiosity than tutorial clones
• Genuine interest in computer science and software engineering as a craft, not just a job
• Comfort working as a generalist, not tied to one exact skill set, with strong, versatile engineering ability and real production experience
• Comfort with an unconventional, conversational interview process rather than a standard coding-question format
• Bonus: Rust experience in particular, the team sees it as a good signal of genuine engineering passion. Also a plus: SolidJS experience, or a background at a company with a rigorous engineering culture like Linear, Ramp, Attio, Notion, Figma, or Cloudflare

Logistics

New York City, in-person. Compensation is $160K to $300K plus equity, scaling with experience, from talented new grads up to roughly 12 years of senior engineering experience
