Founding Platform Engineer

An AI-native, full-stack specialty insurance carrier that operates more like a quantitative hedge fund than a traditional insurer, building bespoke underwriting programs product line by product line.

About the Role

This role sits above individual product teams, owning the internal underwriting operating system that every team builds on top of: the data backbone, model serving, experimentation and backtesting, underwriting workbenches, and agentic research workflows. Early on, expect this to be collaborative build-out alongside technical leadership rather than fully autonomous ownership.

What You'll Own

• The central data backbone, including ingestion, transformation, and governance across varied data sources
• Model deployment and serving infrastructure for pricing and underwriting models
• Experimentation and backtesting systems
• Human and AI-assisted underwriting workbenches
• Agentic workflows for research and validation
• Audit, governance, and compliance flows across the platform

What We're Looking For

• Prior experience building a highly configurable, end-to-end internal workbench or platform, not a customer-facing product
• Systems and architecture experience from an AI lab, big tech company, or startup building around ML products (you don't need to have built the models yourself)
• Comfort prioritizing architecture and functionality over visual polish for internal tools
• Real depth is required here: the team has passed on candidates viewed as too junior even with several years of experience. A fresh PhD needs to show founder-caliber capability, not just credentials.
• Must already have US work authorization; visa sponsorship is not available
